We will be moving hopfully very soon. We have had an offer on a short sale for three months and finally got tired of waiting and gave up. I found this house and saw it on friday, had Tempestt and her Mom see it later that same friday night, then by the next monday we submitted an offer and after a few hours and a few counters we had it under contract! Amazing how quick things can work when banks are motivated. I will post more pictures once we close next week. This picture is from our appraisal

Garden

I have finally gotten around to planting a garden. It has not been a matter of laziness, I just keep delaying it till we close and move to our new house. Well, we don’t know when we will eventually close, so I went ahead a planted a small garden, my hope is that I will be able to move it onto my little trailer and move it with us when we go. We have 4 different types of tomatoes, including cherry tomatoes, squash, cucumber, zucchini, and a watermelon, I am excited to see how it goes.

The update… Work is going well for me; Tempestt is in Italy and having a blast! And we have a house under contract. We were supposed to close a week ago, but due to short sale complication we still have not. After being in Rome for a few weeks Tempestt is now in Florence and loving it. Not that Rome was bad, but Italy has more fun markets and better food. You can look at some of her pictures at morethanmaterial.blogspot.com. I will post some pictures of our house when and if we ever close.

New Dog

Wow it has been way too long since I have posted anything, though I feel you have not missed too much. Only two events really. One is that I am working at New York Life Insurance and I like it a lot. The other is that we have a new Dog. His name is Ralphie and he is a boxer. I went to the vet to get something checked out on our turtle and casually asked what kind of dog would be good as a companion for a Chihuahua. I asked about a boxer and the vets eyes got big and she hurried away to bring and introduce me to Ralphie one of their rescued dogs. We have had him since just before Christmas and despite a lazy eye and longer than average boxer tail we love him. He is absolutely goofy and does the funniest things. He loves to watch the traffic go by and rest his head on anything, the chair, your shoulder as you drive, tempest head, etc… My favorite picture has to be the one with him curled up in Taters bed. I am also attaching a video of the dogs playing together, Tater is working so hard and Ralphie is just standing there.

Our yearly tradition consists of traveling to Clinton where Tempestt Dad, Brett, has the coolest/scariest yard! This year Tempestt plan was to be a Zombie (to keep with her dads themed yard) but stubbled across this snake costume at the DI for $15. Pretty funny huh?

Tater and his Bone

Yep it is Huge! He can't run near as fast when fetching it.

I bought Tater a ham bone at the store. Tempestt thought it would be too big for him, but I wanted to see what he would do with it. As you can see it is HUGE, but he is able to carry it. When we first gave it to him, he did not care about it at all. In the middle of the night however, he left the room (he never does that) the next morning we found his bone had been nawed on quite a bit. Later that day he didn’t want to play fetch with anything but his bone. We usually play fetch with a miniature tennis ball and I occasionally and accidentally hit him with it. So playing fetch with the bone was pretty worrisome, if I was to accidentally hit him with this bone it might have killed him!

After Cambodia we went to Malaysia and now we are Indonesia ,Bali. I know I am a bad blogger and I am sorry. It has been so hectic and I have not been able to have internet so my apologies. Yesterday we went to a traditional Balinese dance and a volcano. Today we just hung on the beach. I forgot how much I love the beach. It is so beautiful here and the waves are amazing. They are so BIG and there are so many surfers here. So total count of countries I have visited on my trip are Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia,and Thailand. My passport is getting full. It is so cool.

sorry about my last post... it was wierd. We are in Cambodia right now we have been here for 2 days and tommorrow we are leaving for Malayasia. Before Cambodia we were in Vietnam. We have been traveling so much it has been hard for me to keep up with our blog.
Today we went to Tole Slang ( the torture prison during the Pol Pot regime) it was extemely sad. We also saw the killing fields today...very sad. But I think it was important to see these things because then they become real. They are no longer just pictures...you have been there and witnessed these trageties. Tommorrow we will be visiting the Roya Palace.

I apologize for my lack of pictures. Things have been a little busy we have left Thailand and we are now on our excursion. WE ARE IN LAOS (pronounced LAO in because the S is silent because the name is french... Laos is a former french colony as of 1950's or 1960's I don't remember exactly but the point is it was not that long ago it was a french colony). It is so beautiful here !!!! Amazingly Awesomely Beautiful. The people are really nice. Today we got to go to a waterfall... crystal blue water...bright green plants...really tall...and swimable... fun! Tomorrow we are leaving for Vietnam. I am really excited. I will update soon with more pictures don't worry.

Sorry I have not blogged this week but I will give you a quick update... Monday (the kids got glasses at school)...it was really fun because 6 kids got glasses donated from a doctor to the school kids.. I am not explaining this well... the eye doctor came a couple weeks ago and tested all the kids' eyes and then made glasses for all of the kids that needed them... all donated...really cool). So they had a ceremony to give the glasses away. ( don't worry I will post pictures) Tuesday... we got ice cream at lunch for the kids it was fun. Wednesday... was movie day... we brought an American movie and candy for the kids... once again fun. Thursday..Burma.. white temple( extremely cool). Friday..nothing much to report. Saturday... learned about Buddhism from a monk...good Thai food..Thai message (AMAZING)... Thai movie (a little funny...a little weird)... night market ( great purchases)Sunday (today

The beauty of doing nothing much

This weekend we did nothing much... much like our week. On Saturday we went to the night market with our neighbor mom and we used the Internet. Then on Sunday we went to church, ate at an American restaurant (we have not had American food in a month)... so it was a treat... I had a burrito and MANGO CHEESECAKE... it was literally the best cheesecake I have ever had. It was so good. Normally in America I do not like mango but here it tastes so good.
Then we went to a market and home to eat dinner with our neighbors. These are my favorite kinds of weekends were you randomly ask your self...self what would I like to do now... read a book... oh OK let's do that. (In case you did not understand that last bit.. it was a conversation between me and myself)

Sick

Well I have this problem about me... if anyone is sick within 17 miles of me I will catch it. So one of the kids at school was sick and I caught it. So our week was pretty uneventful though extremely fun none the less. I love being sick from school. My neighbor mom is the so sweet she took care of me and bought me special surprises because I was sick... I totally ate it up. So we spent our days this week hanging out with MEE ( that ma in Thai)...it was really fun. Sam and I even got to paint some Thai umbrellas. Don't get me wrong I was actually sick... but we had fun as well with MEE.

This is a picture of a cactus at the Royal Flora garden. Our neighbors who took us here were very intrigued by the desert plants. I guess because it is not common to the tropical Thai climate. Our neighbors frequently laugh at us when we see something and get excited about it here in Thailand because it is so common to them. It was pretty fun seeing the tables turned and our friends get excited to see a bunch of cacti.

The weekend is over already... don't get me wrong I love teaching it is just a little exhausting. This weekend our neighbor "Sister"( they are like our family) came home from college for the weekend. We were so excited to see her ans we got to hang out with her all day on Saturday. We went to the Royal Gardens which were so beautiful my favorite part was the building in the center. It was structured like a wat but was not considered a wat. The most incredible part of the building was the inside. The walls were painted black and then it had a mural all around the inside of different events of the kings life. The pictures of the king were in gold. It was so beautiful. The building lay at the foot of this lush green tropical mountain. It was the perfect backdrop.

This week has been pretty usual well I guess for Thailand standards. We taught English as usual and I got to teach 3 art classes. Teaching art is so much fun!!! Teaching English is really hard and frustrating. We have to explain things a million times and the kids misbehave.... they are just normal children and are really cute. I think it is just what comes with teaching English but with art it's just fun. The kids and I just sit around and play with clay and pretend with our clay figures. It is fun. Oh.... I almost forgot the highlight of the week. Two of our students came to our house to visit us. They brought their pet mouse and had Sam and I held it and played with it. Well... I am one of those people that trouble always seems to find and the mouse bit me... just a tiny nibble and then my finger swelled and began to burn and itch. I showed a teacher at our school the next day and she took me to the doctor. That is another interesting experience but I will spare you the details. Let's just say translating is difficult and hospitals look like big houses next to a cow pasture. No scrubs no office no disinfectant and the pharmacy is in the same building which is pretty cool. I got some medicine and the swelling should go down soon I hope. We only had to pay 2.50 (70 baht) for all the medicine ( it is real medicine the same you would get in the United States I have seen it before and in little pop out packets)... why is medicine so expensive in the United States?????? Sorry this is so long.

After we hiked all day Saturday we spent the night with a hill tribe from Burma. We slept in a hut. It was so cool and we were gently awakened by the sound of roosters crowing in the morning. In the hill tribe this little boy let me hold his pet rooster it was so nice and gentle. The boy was cleaning his beak and the rooster did not mind.

This weekend we went hiking up to a hill tribe to stay the night with them. We rode elephants and did bamboo rafting. It was really fun. Here is a picture of how tan my feet got and the other foot is my professor's. He is the king of weird tans. Looks like I am catching up.

Weekends are fun!!

In Thailand every weekend is so crazy we are always so busy. During the week we just teach from 8-3:30 and go home and hang out with our neighbors. Teaching is really exhausting. But when the weekend comes we are go go go. On Friday we had one of our professors come watch and film one of our classes. I was so nervous but luckily they came late and missed the class. We ended up role playing with the class the same lesson for the camera. That day we were at school until 5!!!! because our ride home had a meeting so... Friday night was pretty uneventful Internet in Sangampeng and dinner with our neighbors. On Saturday we went to the Seik Temple and learned about their religion... It was very interesting.We even got to take the sacrament with them... then we went to Dio Sutep where we had BANANA WAFFLES.... WOW I love them. We went to a jade factory after that and then got pizza. I have not had American food in almost 2 weeks. The slippery pizza sliding down my throat was so refreshing. Then we went home. On Sunday we went to church. I have not talked about the church here in my blog but all I have to say is that it is amazing....

This is one of my favorite things in Thailand.. Lodee I can really describe it to the fullness of it's deliciousness but believe me it's amazing. It's almost like a crispy crepe with condensed milk and sugar. It is soo good. They also have the most amazing fruit here. In America I never really cared for mangos but here they are mind blowingly delicious. Sam also has found one of the most delicious drinks it is a pineapple smoothie. It is so good and the pineapple is so sweet. Another thing they have here is a banana waffle.. it's like a corn dog but instead of corn bread and hot dog, it is banana and waffle mmmmmm

This is a picture of our neighbors that take such good care of us.. The mom is so sweet and an amazing women. She is so tiny but I always see her around the yard doing CRAZY manual labor.. like shoveling cement for hours and never complaining. She is also a devote vegan and very devoted to her faith. she is such an inspiration. The father is so cute. He is so little and is always cracking jokes. Run is their daughter who we hang out with pretty much every day she is 20. She is leaving to go back to her university soon and I am very sad. I am very sad.But it will help me with my Thai because she translated so me and her parents can speak. I have been working at my Thai and I know some words and key phrases it is a really hard language.

This was a waterfall I hiked up in ballet flats (the shoe choice was not made with a knowledge of the activities of that day).By hiked I mean I have never hiked like this in my life, literally through the jungle with leeches, giant ants, crossing streams, snakes, slippery rocks... and AMAZING waterfalls. It was like a dream or something you see in movies.

These are some of the children that we teach they are soooo cute. They are really nice, respectful and helpful. The children in Thailand are so petite and little. It is a really cool experience being able to teach them a little English, though it is really frustrating at times.. It is rewarding when later in the day after you have taught them a new word they are able to recall it.

This is a picture of a toilet paper dispenser in the mall. In Thailand bathrooms RARELY have toilet paper..( I have only been 1 one place) The toilet paper costs 1 baht which is equal to less that one cent and you have to buy it before you enter the bathroom. So if you forget to buy it... oops. Most restrooms don't have a dispenser where you can buy toilet paper, you just have to remember to bring it.

Sorry I have not posted a new post in a while we have not had Internet access. We have to walk about 20 minutes to get Internet access and usually after we teach school we are so tired. I never realized how much goes into teaching it is a lot of work. We love the kids we teach they are so cute and really nice. The children help us with our Thai and are very helpful. Today we will be teaching about clothing... This past weekend was a Buddhist holiday so we did not have school on Monday. On Sunday we walked up this mountain to a Wat in celebration of Buddha's birthday and day he received enlightenment. WOW!!! What a hike it was 17 Kilometers which is about 10 miles I think... We stared the trek at about 9 and got to the top at 2...it was really tiring.We got home at about 5:30 in the morning because traffic was so bad getting down the hill. Sorry I have not included pictures yet. Later today I will try to post some.

Busy

We have been in Thailand for 4 days and have been so busy the whole time. But it has been a good busy. We went to this hot spring with our group and it was in the mountains. It was so beautiful with lots of cool plants that I had never seen before. The coolest part of this hot spring was that there was a separate pool were you can buy baskets of eggs and boil them in the pool. They also had a large statue of these eggs. It was just so cool because it was so different. At first I thought it was so weird but then I saw everyone eating their eggs by the pool and I thought it was cool.

We arrived in Thailand yesterday. The weather is sticky, the food is good and the people are nice.We found our new home we will be living in while we are teaching English. It is a little scary, almost like camping but a little better, like camping in the jungle. There are so many bugs and they are loud at night. Today we got to see the school we will be teaching at, it is very cute. Sam has a tan already and I have learned a new appreciation for sinks. We are working on our Thai which is really hard language.

Today we went to the Acropolis which is a block from our hotel. The acropolis is the center of the city and it is amazing. It was such an incredible experience to see in real life. I took so many pictures but I don't think that they do it justice. We also walked around the little shops which was really fun. The food is so good here and the people are really nice. There is one weird thing though, there are a lot of stray dogs but they all have tags and are all well fed. I think I will ask someone about it and later inform you later. I am on the hotel computer so I will have to put pictures on later.

Officially we have arrived in India and are in our hotel. So far every part of our experience up to this point has definately been adventerous. Driving here is crazy I have never heard so much honking. There are alot of poor people just living off of the highway in shacks made out of plastic tarps, it is hard to see. I am really grateful to be an american.

ENGLAND!!!

We are here in England. It has been 6 days now since our arrival and we had had a wonderful time. We are partially sad to leave England tomorrow on our way to India but really excited for the rest of our trip. Tempestt favorite part of the trip was today after we have rented a car and drove almost two hours into the country to visit Mildenhall where she lived a few years. After a few scary experiences as Sam was attempting to get used to the idea of driving on the opposite side of the road we actually were able to find the house Tempestt once lived in. We later went to a nearby town of Bury St. Edmunds. Their Tempestt found a lot of familiar places in the market she remembers from her childhood. Sam’s favorite part of the trip was a toss up between visiting historic landmarks like the Tower of London or the plays we had the opportunity to see. Overall the trip was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed finding our way around.

We leave in 2 days and my stress level is pretty high. I have two more finals (math comprehensive and art history). I try to study but just find other things to do, it is stressful. Also technically I have not finished paking yet... it is so hard for me I am trying to pack as little as possible but I just love clothes and want to bring them all. AHHH! I have a ton of stuff in my suitcase I just have to weed it out.

So I have a new haircut and from the picture I am sure you can tell that I am a little confused by it.. I told my hairdresser to do what ever he wants and well I got this. I am not sure how I feel... well I feel uncomfortable and a little boyish. It is good for Thailand becuase all I do it blow dry it, put so gunk in it and mess it up.( It is actually fun doing my hair now) Oh also on the plus side I think it looks like Tinker Bell's haircut in "Hook" and I love Tinker Bell.

I Love My Dog

I am prefacing this blog by telling you that it is a little disturbing but represents my true love for my dog.
Tator has this unusual habit of rubbing his body in smelly things... usually the rotten walnuts that fall off of our tree. Today was a different story and smell. Sam was washing speedy's cage outside and letting speedy walk around. I came outside and what I saw was our little puppy running around with green streaks on his face. As you guessed it he had rubbed his little face in speedy's poop. Oh I love my dog even with his wierd quirks!

I met Lisa Bearnson yesterday! She was SOOO nice. My mother is a fan of hers and I wanted a picture with Lisa for my mom but I left my digital camera's battery at my dad's house. So I purchased a disposable camera for the occasion, so I do not have the pictures to post online yet. Anyways the experience was really great and inspired me to have courage and not be afraid to be great, like Lisa.

Asparagus

We have been eating asparagus lately. We have had it twice already this week. This is a new trend because asparagus was on sale. We dropped an uncooked peace on the floor the other day and Tater quickly discovered the stick like properties of the stalk and enjoyed playing with it. Tater got chipped

My little darling Tater now has a technological device jammed in his back. He is now a high-tech pup! We are now assured he will be with us FOREVER. Sam took Tater to get microchip put in his back, so if he gets lost they can get his owners information from the chip. I went to Petsmart the other day to buy Tater some food and they had dog clothes that looked like baby onesies even with the feeties. I was so tempted, but I resisted.

Packing and the frustrations

We are preparing to go to Thailand.... I am a little bit crazy and have had my bag packed since Febuary... I guess we are just really excited. We have also been packing up our house since Febuary. Randomly Sam will say "Hey Tempestt where's the...." and the items will vary from cake pan to clothing items. Sam has even had to unpack a few boxes just to get some things we need. Ooops!
